What the options do

Dimensions and fit

width and height set the output dimensions. scale-down never enlarges; contain preserves the whole image; cover fills and crops; crop crops to the requested size; pad adds space around the image.

Quality and format

quality trades visual quality for file size. auto negotiates an efficient format with the browser. AVIF and WebP are usually smaller; JPEG and PNG are useful for compatibility or transparency.

Position and detail

gravity chooses which area survives a crop. face attempts face-aware positioning. dpr scales output for high-density displays. sharpen adds edge detail and blur obscures detail.

Finishing

rotate turns the image by 90, 180, or 270 degrees. background supplies a color when padding is added. metadata controls which source metadata is retained.
